Dodgers Game 71 Notes 6/17/23
After taking hiatus, the Friday night round-a-bout that was the 11-inning game from the ever so slowly rising nightly temps of Chavez Ravine, I'm back to watch Bobby Miller face the Giants for the first time, with somewhat of a patchwork Dodgers lineup set to face former Dodger Alex Wood. The one through four hitters remain essentially the same, minus Max Muncy, with Betts, Freeman, Smith and JD, however the backend of the Dodgers lineup continues to showcase some of the touted farm hands the team has been incubating. Johnny DeLuca gets gifted with hitting 5th tonight and MLB Top-100 prospect Michael Busch is starting as he gets his feet wet in the show. Keep in mind, these first few inning notes my be short as I have my chameleon sports eyes half-locked on the U.S. Open.
Tale of the Tape:
Los Angeles Dodgers, 39-31 2nd NL West
Bobby Miller, 3-0 1.78 ERA
San Francisco Giants, 37-32 3rd NL West
Alex Wood, 1-1 4.80 ERA
Top 1st
-Miller gets into trouble with 2 outs w/ Pederson on third, Conforto crushes 100mph to the wall and DeLuca makes a great catch into the wall... No idea how that ball wasn't 13 rows into the pavilion...
Bot 2nd
-Miguel Vargus needs to relocate his hand position. I've watched him from Game 1 this year and he wraps EVERYTHING around to the left side of the field, unless he's late, then he can catch hard barrel contact the other way. Based on his stance and tempo remaining the same, either he's not being told to change anything or he his and not doing it between the lines. He is a hole in the lineup right now.
Nothing thru 2
Bot 3rd
-Michael Busch lefty off lefty Double. nice. straight over CF's head left of 395 marker
-Austin Barnes comes up, kinda confused since Will Smith hit in the 1st 🤔 ok Will Smith is DHing, Barnes catching. Glad not the other way around
-Freeman HBP Willy up
- If Will Smith doesn't make the ASG with his .290+ average I will not watch the ASG
-Smith fuckin pops out
- Rory McIlroy just hit a 3-wood out of heavy rough off the fair way and pulled it far left over toward an adjacent tee box on a hole working the opposite direction - bounced once and hopped directly over a course attendant's head on the left side of the tee box
Thru 4 innings
- Non-eventful game so far which is doing me a massive favor because this U.S. Open is off the chain
Top 5th
-Bobby Miller gives up a 3-run bomb to Lamonte Wade Jr. 4-0 Giants I don't like this
- I didn't wanna say anything since i've been literally switching back and forth every 5-10 seconds between golf shots and pitches, but I thought early on Miller didn't appear to have the same pizazz he has on his pitches in previous starts...please don't overthrow to see 100 on the gun young boy, Dodgers need health
Bot 5th
-If Miguel Rojas is starting at SS for us post-trade deadline, Dodgers are getting Ohtani this offseason.
- This game might break whatever the record is for fastest game time this season. Dodgers are speed-running outs.
Top 6th
- Bobby Miller leaves after 5.1 IP, 5 ER. Not good. Will watch the rest of this game after golf with the smallest amount of optimism.
- If our bullpen has trouble tonight, bet the Giants ML tomorrow (Sunday) big 💵💵💵
-Grand Slam by JD Davis. Goodnight and good luck Dodgers, will watch the rest of this game via phone.
Bot 6th
- Two double plays hit into thru 2/3 of the game is never good. Not to sound like an old head but a lot of wrapping going on in these Dodger swings
Top 7th
-Beat down szn. see ya
Okay I'm just gonna publish these game notes now as it's 12-0 Giants in the Top 8th. Hopefully I jinx them. God Bless
