Fair or Foul?

What a week it has been. After a brief hiatus due to the start of the new school year, here comes the next sequence of "Fair or Foul", probably the best blog segment ever created. If you've never been before, this is the place where I put on my powdered wig, grab my gavel and get after it. Let's get started-

1) Bryce Harper's hair

The Washington Nationals right fielder took to Instagram last week to show off his new haircut, proving that baseball players start to lose it after being on the DL long enough. After taking a look I can say that it's definitely not the direction I would've gone, or maybe even could've gone depending on how much he cashed out.

Here's the picture:

Don't get me wrong, the hairdo is impressive, but I can't say it's too cool. Like I said, chances are I can't afford it, and if I could I still wouldn't want it. BUT the Bat Flip celebrates diversity, independence, and all kinds of cuts. My only question is how Bryce Harper found Moses to do his hair.

Clearly, the man has connections. He don't need no high school dropout doing his cuts at the mall! You peasants and your mall haircuts...

All in all, Bryce Harper must feel the need to stay relevant during this DL stint. The Conor McGregor of baseball just went biblical on the league's ass.

The Verdict: FOUL

2) Nolan Arenado hits bomb, jaws at fan

The Arizona Diamondbacks have been streaking of late, as they attempt to embarrass the Los Angeles Dodgers and pull off some end of the year craziness. While the Rockies have been treading the Brewers and Cardinals for the Wild Card, Arenado raking never changes.

The sunny state of Arizona is the ultimate recreational area. People can buy cheap houses to fill up on boats, golf, and booze. It was first golf, then boating, and lastly the booze for one D-Backs fan, who must've had one too many cheladas during his night out. Rather than get into too much detail, here's the video:

A lot of people may shame Arenado for doing such a thing.

"Focus on the game, who cares what people say".

Probably from a lot of those who watched the video. Give Nolan some slack, it's not easy being a future hall of famer and having to deal with cheladas in the stands. It's like a bat flip; "don't embarrass the pitcher, act like you've been there before". Guess what, everybody's heard it before! Anyone who hits a home run in the Major Leagues should be able to have some kind of token celebration while rounding the bases.

Any fan who chooses to be a heckler (and it is in the contract) is subject to retributory disrespect from any given players. It's just that simple. Don't f*** with Arenado, I guess. An eye for an eye as they say. Arenado's got that crazy eye

The Verdict: FAIR ball

3) 9/11-9/12 LAD@SFG

In case you haven't heard, the Bay Area received some intense weather on the night of September 11. The SF Chronicle reported 800 lightning strikes in five hours.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers had travelled up north to AT&T for a three game set with the Gigantes. In the 2nd inning, the umpires directed teams off the field in fear of the oncoming Armageddon. The teams then sat in the clubhouse to wait out the storm.

After finishing some other work I had to do at home, I was astonished to see the game going on at 11:25pm. I tweeted a photo, but if you didn't see, it was a peculiar sight. I know the look too well. Players looking around the dugout like "We're seriously playing this thing?"

OR

"Coach isn't serious. The field's trashed, how are we supposed to practice?"

Flat surfaces and long objects when combined with lightning equals fun. I had to feel for guys on both sides. I would've called it. Or suspended it for another day. This is getting a bit dry, but if it makes things any easier, the game didn't end til 2 am.

Although I have sympathy (maybe a certain level of empathy) for both teams, this must've been awesome for the fans who stuck around. There's something magical and mysterious about baseball being played when everyone else is asleep.

The Verdict: A spec of chalk flew up, FAIR ball
